Father's day is a great opportunity for families to come together and celebrate with each other. Some will head to breakfast, others to a baseball game, and some to the zoo. This year, though, the Potter Park Zoo has a deal for dads to celebrate the day.

They get in for free.

"I figured it was going to be like five or six bucks for me," says Bo Smith, a father who brought his son to the zoo. "Then I saw the sign as soon as we walked up and I was like alright this is pretty cool."

The gorgeous day coupled with the family holiday brought out tons of families, and for many the free admission was a complete surprise.

"For father's day we decided to come to the zoo, and I didn't even know it was free," says Smith.

This is the first year the zoo gave free admission for dads on father's day. A similar deal was in place on mother's day, though, that gave moms free entrance in the beginning of May.

Families could come and see the hundreds of animals in the zoo, including bald eagles, moose, and sea otters. And for kids like Logan Smith, just spending the day with his father meant a lot.

"I loved it," says Logan, "Just a father-son day."
