"I feel like I really found myself here and I think a lot of students find that they find themselves here too," -Sammy Bowers, MSU senior

Since she was young, Bowers knew that she would end up at MSU. Campus was the perfect distance for her, knowing that home was just a little over an hour drive away.

After high school, MSU was the single school Bowers applied to. She was set on being a Spartan.

Now, Bowers is preparing to stand in front of her Spartan class on Friday, May 6th at the Breslin Center to deliver her commencement speech for the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, CCAS

Bowers was selected from a group of students to represent the student body for the CCAS spring class of 2016. She has earned a dual degree in advertising and communication from MSU. Bowers also holds a position as campus ad manager for The Black Sheep MSU.

When receiving the news that she had been selected as the student representative, Bowers said she was in disbelief.

"I was in Michael's getting crafts for my graduation cap and I got the email and I think I was in the store like an hour after that because I was like no way, there's no way," she said.

Bowers pictured herself delivering her commencement speech ever since attending her friend's graduation in December 2015.

"You want something for yourself for so long and when once you get it your like –wait, 'I did that for myself?'" she said.

Bowers' attitude towards becoming a Spartan alumna sets the nostalgic tone for her speech.

"College is all about the experience and you have to savor and remember that experience, every aspect of it and carry it with you throughout life," she said.

Bowers' father has been her main inspiration throughout college and is mentioned in her speech.
"There's a whole part of being who you are and remembering who you are, and I think that he was my main inspiration in that," she said.

She said another big inspiration was her MSU faculty mentor, Robert Kolt.

Just three days after graduation, Bowers will head to Chicago to search for apartments. She was offered a job as national sales manager for The Black Sheep corporate.

"I think when we find out where we want to go and what kind of job we want to do," Bowers said, "It’s a lot about realizing that when you find a job, it's not about taking the first job that comes around –it's about taking the right one that works in with your lifestyle."

Bowers said that MSU has made her ready for life after graduation.
