Officials on holiday travel are projecting an increase by 3.5% in air travel this season.
That's over a three week span between December 15 and January 4.
The TSA has been reporting that Thursday, December 21, along with Friday the 22 will be the busiest travel days of the year.
In just the Lansing airport alone, thousands are expected to be traveling during those three weeks.
The Lansing airport has sent out a reminder to all that are planning to fly on things you need to know before packing that suitcase and getting on that plane.
First - plan ahead. They say that airport security screening lines are fast and efficient in Lansing, but the TSA still advises travelers to arrive at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight.
Second, have your ID ready. You should have identification and boarding passes out when approaching the security checkpoint.
Third, know the liquids rule, which is 3.4-ounce bottles or less for all liquids, gels and aerosols, placed in a 1-quart-sized clear plastic zip-top bag to hold all small bottles; and 1 bag per passenger. Larger quantities of liquids may be packed in checked baggage.
And fourth - what to wear (you may not have thought of this...) They suggest that you wear comfortable clothing and easy-to-slip-on shoes. Be sure to take everything out of your pockets before screening. And don't wear clothes with a high metal content, also put heavy jewelry on after you go through security.
And when it comes to wrapped presents - don't do it.
The TSA also recommends that passengers do not travel with wrapped packages in their carry-on bags. They are instead encouraged to use gift bags or boxes, or consider wrapping presents upon arrival at their destination.
