Tri-County TRIAD is asking for help to make sure every senior citizen in our community has a Merry Christmas.
Police and fire departments in the tri-county area are raising money for the annual "No Senior Without Christmas." The event delivers Christmas gifts and basic necessities to elders in need. Donations are down considerably this year.
Organizers say many seniors rely on these gifts during the holiday season.
Lansing Police Lieutenant Traci Ruiz said, "Many are in dilapidated housing. If they say something, they're in fear that people will send them to nursing homes or places that they don't want to be. So they will live in those houses below poverty level, below means, without saying anything. So it means the world to them."
Tri-County TRIAD needs to raise $7,000 within the next week to meet its goal. The gifts will be delivered on December 6th. We've included a link with this article.
