We're going to see a lot of examples of Mid-Michigan's generosity over the next several weeks during the holiday season.
It doesn't always take a big organization to bring meals to families.
A local neighborhood came together within hours to bring thanksgiving to a family in need.
Stephanie Sanchez heard that a Lansing family of six wasn't going to be able to afford a thanksgiving meal this year. She decided to post on her neighborhood's Facebook page asking for donations.
"So I just thought you know..Lets see if we can get some donations going on", said Sanchez.
The Lakeside Preserve neighborhood in DeWitt responded quickly. Within 20 hours, an entire Thanksgiving meal, plus extra food and utensils, were dropped off at Stephanie's doorstep ready to be given to the family.
One neighbor was even willing to give the turkey he had ready for his family's thanksgiving. He realized it wasn't big enough to feed six people, so he went out and bought a brand new one.
"Everyone just started dropping off food and a great big frozen turkey..and plates..and forks..just everything a family could want for thanksgiving", said Sanchez.
Neighbors say they didn't have to think twice about helping out after seeing the Facebook post.
"I love that the little things like this pop up that we can all participate in..because it is such an easy way to give back", said Lakeside Preserve resident, Emily Biggs.
The family who received the items have asked to stay anonymous...but say they're overwhelmed with the kindness of the neighborhood.
Stephanie is proud to be apart of such a giving community and happy they get to provide a family with a thanksgiving feast this year.
"You know we haven't lived in the neighborhood very long..and just knowing their kindness and how much they care..and umm just willingness..just so quickly..giving so much out of kindness and being grateful", said Sanchez.
