Another round of holiday shopping is underway right now.
Today is Cyber Monday, and the National Retail Federation expects more than 122 million people to shop online today.
Many of those people will be clicking on deals while sitting at their desk at work today. A lot of deals are just too good for consumers to wait until they get home, so many people shop while on the clock.
Online shopping is very popular with many opting to skip the long lines at the stores. Plus, many retailers are offering promotions and free shipping today.
Sales are already strong from the holiday weekend.
Store chains like Target, Walmart and Best Buy are in competition with Amazon. Those stores are seeing more of their sales come from online versus in store.
Retail experts say shoppers are mostly using mobile devices to make their purchases.
Target reports more than 60% of its online sales Friday were done with a mobile device.
"Shopping is no longer an in-store experience," says RetailMeNot.com's Rebekah George, "We know that many people are shopping on line, many people are using their phones to buy products."
The biggest draw for consumers this year? Electronics.
Many are hunting for good deals on TVs, computers, tablets and other gadgets.
If you are shopping online today, here are some tips to stay safe from hackers:
- Designate a separate credit card just for online purchases, that way if your account is hacked, the rest of your bank accounts will be safe.
- Keep an eye on your bank statements. You need to really watch out for charges that might be small, like a couple of dollars.
- Hackers hope you won't notice a few bucks missing from your account.
