Hi! I'm Jake DeRees, Weekend Meteorologist here at FOX 47 News.
I joined FOX 47 back in January 2024. I am so happy to be starting my career in the state I grew up in. I am originally from the metro Detroit area and have always loved what Michigan has to offer when it comes to weather.
I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology and Broadcast/Cinematic Arts. Fire Up Chips! During my time there, I worked at CMU's student run news show as a Weather Forecaster, News Anchor, Traffic Reporter, and News Producer. I also had the amazing opportunity to be the Weather/Climate Intern for NBC's weather team at 30 Rock, NYC, during the summer of 2023.
I grew up in a family of journalists and was no stranger to both print journalism as well as broadcast journalism. I was always intrigued by on-air Meteorologists, especially during severe weather events. After experiencing my first tornado warning, I knew that I wanted to pursue this profession to help communicate the danger that the atmosphere can bring from winter storms to severe thunderstorms.
When I'm not forecasting, I love spending time with friends and staying active. I'm always looking for new restaurants to try and also love reading comic books.
If you ever have a question, I would love to hear it!
