The Impossible Burger Is The Most Popular Late-night Snack

Posted at 1:42 PM, Jul 02, 2019

If you had to guess what America’s current favorite late-night snack is, I bet you’d say pizza. If not that, then fried mozzarella sticks or maybe wings.

But you’d be wrong on all counts. The most popular late-night snack in the U.S. right now is actually the inimitable Impossible Burger, a vegan creation available only in restaurants, and people are clamoring for it at all hours of the day and night.

According to a Grubhub “State of the Plate” report, the Impossible Burger skyrocketed 529% in popularity as a late-night meal in the first half of 2019. It’s even gaining favor in the Midwest, with its popularity rising by 326%, just in case you thought only vegans in Marin County are eating this beloved veggie burger.

If you’ve had the burger, it’s easy to see why so many people like it: It really tastes like a burger, and not like a conglomeration of rice, lentils, mushrooms and tempeh, as so many other veggie burgers do (this author, a former vegetarian, can confirm that many veggie burgers are revolting).

The burger has been through many taste-tests and eaters agree — it’s the real deal. It’s crunchy on the outside, pink and tender on the inside (thanks to heme, a naturally occurring compound) and wholly satisfying, even if you don’t add a slice of cheese.

If you want to try the burger for yourself, you can use their handy restaurant locator to see where you can get one — they are available across large swaths of the country, so there’s a good chance a restaurant near you is grilling one up as you read this. They’re even available at chains like White Castle, Little Caesar’s and Burger King.

And if you’re not hungry now, well, just order one for a late snack tonight.
