Trenton Police are investigating whether someone embezzled thousands of dollars from the Downriver Junior Football League.
The investigation started on February 16th. Three members of the Downriver Junior Football League came to the Trenton Police Department.
A check had bounced, then they realized money was missing.
“With these type of cases it is the kids that always seem to suffer,” said Lt. Michael Shaw of the Michigan State Police Department.
Michigan State Police are now investigating the allegations.
Shaw says they are working with banks to gather evidence, such as pictures, indicating who is responsible.
“It looks like there is supposed to be about $23,000. When they did some checking back, there was about $100 left. So that is quite a bit of money taken out of there,” said Shaw.
The Downriver Junior Football League let parents know about this problem on its web page.
It says in part quote, “The league has a recovery plan in place and will continue to deliver outstanding coaching and mentoring of football and cheerleading to the Downriver and surrounding communities.”
