Michigan State Police are testing a new system to help drivers make safer decisions behind the wheel.

It works by using a digital siren technology to transmit a signal through the navigation app "Waze."

The system alerts you when a patrol vehicle with lights and siren are activated. You'll get as much as a 30-second notice.

The pilot program started in January and runs through next month.
