AAA: Gas prices continue to rise ahead of Fourth of July

Gas prices in Michigan are down slightly after jumping 14 cents to $2.83 on June 26, AAA Michigan reports.

Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $2.79 per gallon for regular unleaded, which is up 9 cents compared to a week ago.

As nearly 1.5 million Michiganders prepare to hit the road for Fourth of July, the Michigan state average is still 9 cents less than this time last month and 21 cents less than this time last year.

AAA Michigan reports that motorists are paying an average of $42 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline, a discount of $5 when prices were their highest last May.

The most expensive gas price averages were found in Ann Arbor ($2.84), Metro Detroit ($2.82) and Jackson ($2.81.) The least expensive gas price averages were found in Traverse City ($2.61), Saginaw ($2.73) and Lansing ($2.73.)
