A blog post on the official Star Wars website reveals that Carrie Fisher will appear in Star Wars Episode 9, despite passing away in 2016.
The post, which announces the case for the final episode of the first Star Wars trilogy not overseen by George Lucas, reveals the Fisher will appear in footage that was shot during Episode 7: The Force Awakens.
The movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who is quoted as saying, “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
The movie also confirms the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalkers, despite SPOILER ALERT!!!!! his apparent death in The Last Jedi.
The as yet untitled Star Wars Episode 9 hits theaters in December 2019.
