It’s Christmas in July for bargain-hunters: Amazon Prime Day.
The deals debut at midnight on July 15 for members of Amazon’s Prime service. A little bit of everything’s on sale through July 16, from kitchen gadgets to grocery items to electronics. Using the Amazon app, shoppers can even “watch” their favorite products to see when and if a discount hits.
For folks looking for a boost to their home-security setup, a Ring is a solid choice to watch on Prime Day. The electronic doorbell system sends a notification when a visitor rings the bell at your home, then transmits a video image to the user’s phone or computer.
From the comfort of your couch, or wherever you happen to be, you can talk with the person at your door: Let them know you’re on your way to the front, ask the mail carrier to leave a package on the stoop or tell a friend you’ll meet them at the car. It’s pretty nifty!
The device also comes with security features like night vision and motion detection. Ring offers optional security service plans to complete the package, as well.
In 2018, the Ring Pro video doorbell went for $174 on Prime Day. Normally, it’s priced at $249, so that’s $75 off!
The Pro offers a few more features over the classic Ring system: A selection of faceplates to match your outdoor decor, a battery-free power system and on-demand viewing through the doorbell camera. You don’t have to wait for someone to ring the Ring, or for the motion sensor to get triggered — you can just turn on the camera and check things out.
There’s no word yet on whether the Pro will be part of the Prime Day party in a couple of weeks. There are plenty of questions, too, about what exactly the Ring is recording, and who might be watching. Hacks are a threat if the doorbell’s password is compromised. A family in California received a frightening false alarm when their Nest doorbell system was hacked earlier this year.
If you’re undeterred by the flaws, there’s a strong chance Ring will be in the lineup when Prime Day hits — Amazon owns the company, after all. And if you simply can’t wait to see if the Ring Pro goes on sale, the original Ring costs only $99.99 at regular price.
