Sunday, Sept. 8, is National Grandparents Day.

According to the Farmer's Almanac, the day honoring grandmothers and grandfathers has always been celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day since 1979. National Grandparents Day is an observance and not a public holiday in the United States. Among the purposes for National Grandparents Day include honoring grandparents and helping children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

In case you were looking for a gift for the grandparents in your life, the Farmer's Almanac says the official flower of Grandparents Day is the Forget Me Not. The official song of National Grandparents Day is “A Song for Grandma And Grandpa” by Johnny Prill.
