More than 120 foster children were officially bonded with their forever families, on Michigan's Adoption Day Tuesday.

The theme for this year's Adoption Day was "Giving Thanks For Families," and families have a lot to be thankful for this year.

The Michigan Supreme Court hosted Adoption Day at the Hall of Justice in downtown Lansing.

Five of the justices were among those banging the gavel to finalize adoptions.

Michigan has 13,000 children in the foster care system waiting for permanent homes.

In the last fiscal year, more than 1,700 kids statewide were adopted.

Adoption hearings are usually private, but on Adoption Day, the celebration hearings are open to the public.

Judges and state officials hope this will inspire others to consider adoption.

Most children available for adoption do qualify for adoption assistance.

Many of them also receive ongoing support subsidies.
