Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum says the recount of the presidential election that was supposed to start Friday will be delayed because of an expected objection by Donald Trump's campaign.
The Jackson County clerk's office tells FOX 47 News the order came down from the state Thursday. Even if the state gives counties clearance to start the recount they must wait two business days after that order is issued.
Green Party nominee Jill Stein formally requested the recount on Wednesday. She admits she has no chance to win and that the recount won't change the outcome of the election. Her representatives delivered a check for nearly $1 million to the State Board of Canvassers to pay for it as required by law. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says the statewide hand recount will cost at least $4 million.
Byrum now plans to start counting the ballots by hand on December 6 or 7. She will continue working to hire people to assist with the recount. People willing to work 11-hour shifts for $125 per day should send the following information to inghamclerk@ingham.org
