A former student at Lansing Eastern High School is suing the Lansing School District, accusing administrators of failing to protect her after she was sexually assaulted.

The lawsuit was filed earlier this week.

The female student claims administrators were "deliberately indifferent" and subjected her to a hostile environment, after she was sexually assaulted by Edward Jackson on school property in September 2014.

Jackson was later sentenced to seven to 15 in prison for the incident.

Named in the student's lawsuit are a principal, a public safety officer, and the district's superintendent.

In a statement released last night, superintendent Yvonne Caamal Canul says "we fully cooperated with law enforcement regarding the named perpetrator and supported the victim with care and compassion."
