A church in Jackson is using basketball to help get clean water for people in Honduras and Burundi.

The Jackson Free Methodist Church held its annual Buckets of Hope fundraiser Saturday. It raises money to donate water filters and mosquito nets to people in in places like Honduras and Burundi, where clean water is scarce.

Part of the proceeds also go to filling backpacks with food for kids right here at home.

Buckets of Hope director Bob Wilson says it's a great way to teach kids about volunteering.

"It doesn't matter how old you are, what your size is, how much money--it's that everybody can do one thing, something to make a difference."

Their goal Saturday was $20,000.

The money goes pretty far. A $50 water filter can mean a million gallons of fresh water for a family
