DEWITT, Mich. (WSYM) - Children in Dewitt were given the opportunity to get their holiday shopping done with a special guest.
The annual “Shop with a Hero” event allowed children to hit the aisles of Meijer with first responders from the Dewitt Township Fire and Police, along with Laingsburg Police and Fire.
Before heading to the Meijer location in Dewitt, children first met at the Dewitt Township Fire Station.
Each child was given $150 to purchase whatever they’d like for the holiday season.
For Dewitt Township Fire employees, it’s a great opportunity to spread some holiday cheer.
"We reached out to the schools and to counselors to obtain names of families,” said Dave Dekort from Dewitt Township Fire. “They're out here shopping today to brighten up their Christmas and their family's Christmas."
19 employees from the Dewitt Township Fire Department took part in the event along with 31 children.
