LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Ignite FC has announced today the addition of forward Alex Bruce for the 2019 season. The 20-year-old talent joins LIFC on loan from the USL Championship’s San Antonio FC, pending league and federation approval.
In 2018, Bruce appeared in 13 regular-season matches for San Antonio, recording eight starts. He scored three goals and recorded a 72.7 percent passing accuracy in USL Championship matches.
“Alex is a young striker who broke through last year with San Antonio,” LIFC Head Coach Nate Miller said. “His movement off the ball and goal-scoring ability for a young player is exciting, and he has the detailed qualities I look for in a striker as he is very cerebral in his movements but also very brave in the box. This is an important year for Alex to battle and prove that he can be a match-winner consistently.”
Originally from England, Bruce appeared in 31 games for the Texans SC Houston U-17/18s from 2016-2017, scoring 17 goals in 29 starts while leading the team to its first-ever U.S. Soccer Development Academy Championship in July after a 2-1 victory over the LA Galaxy.
“I’m excited to join the team on loan and meet up with my teammates and the coaching staff,” Bruce said. “I’m excited for the new challenge ahead and look to make it a successful year for the club.”
LIFC begins its USL League One campaign against the Richmond Kickers in Richmond, Virginia, on March 30 and against Greenville Triumph SC in Greenville, South Carolina, on April 6. The team will then return home to prepare for its week-long, home-opening celebration. LIFC will hold a celebration in downtown Lansing ahead of the team’s first League One match at Cooley Law School Stadium against the Kickers on April 13, and the celebration of soccer in the Michigan capital will continue three days later with the Capital Cup.
