Michigan State University has filed a lawsuit against ESPN after the sports media giant requested police reports under the Freedom of Information Act.
ESPN made the request in February after MSU announced the suspension of three football players and one staff member because of an alleged sexual assault.
MSU says it was put in an impossible position because the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office asked MSU not to give those reports to ESPN because the investigation had not yet been finished. The university is asking for a court to decide whether or not the police reports can be released.
The alleged sexual assault happened on January 16 at the University Village apartments on campus. So far no charges have been filed.
