Five scientists have been selected as the firstFacility for Rare Isotope Beams-Chinese Scholarship Council research fellows.
The fellowship program is part of a memorandum of understanding agreed to between Michigan State University and China’s Peking University. It is designed to offer research opportunities for young scientists interested in FRIB-related research.
The five fellows have been assigned to a specific U.S.-based user facility, where they will spend the next two years working alongside established researchers in the field.
The five fellows and their host institutions follow.
• Bingshui Gao of the Institute of Modern Physics in China – MSU-based National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory
• Shilun Jin of the Institute of Modern Physics in China – MSU-based National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory
• Ningtao Zhang of the Institute of Modern Physics in China – MSU-based National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory
• Jie Chen of Peking University – Argonne National Laboratory
• Yinu Zhang of Peking University – Ohio State University
MSU is establishing FRIB as a new scientific user facility for the Office of Nuclear Physics in the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science.
Under construction on campus and operated by MSU, FRIB will enable scientists to make discoveries about the properties of rare isotopes in order to better understand the physics of nuclei, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications for society, including in medicine, homeland security and industry.
