Jackson County Sheriff deputies have opened a homicide investigation after a fight broke out at a field party.
Deputies were called to a field in the 4000 block of Fishville Road in Grass Lake Township at 3:27 a.m.
While deputies were on scene, three victims were brought to Henry Ford Allegiance with a variation of injuries.
An 18-year-old man from Jackson died at the hospital, two others are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The second victim, identified as 20-years-old from Jackson County, has been taken into surgery. The third victim suffered superficial wounds and is being identified as a 23-year-old from Lenawee County.
Deputies tell FOX 47 hundreds of people were at the field party.
A witness tells FOX 47 18-year-old victim was stabbed in his neck and abdomen.
"It looked like the guy just took it and stabbed him and wouldn't stop," said one witness. "When you see something like that and you see all that gore, it's definitely going to make you not want to go to another one of those parties."
The witness says almost 500 cars were trying to leave the field at the same time.
Details regarding a suspect were not immediately available however deputies say the suspect did flee the scene.
The witness says they hope for justice.
"I'm really hoping they find out who it is," the witness said. "I think its really terrible, he was only 18 years old, he had so much going for him and because somebody wanted to be stupid at a party."
According to an event page, a "Big Michigan Project X Party" was scheduled for June 16 at 4649 Fishville Road in Grass Lake. The party was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. A Facebook page for the event has since been deleted.
Detectives with the investigation say the homeowner rented out the property for $500. The homeowner declined an interview with FOX 47.
Michigan State Police and Blackman Leoni Township Department of Public Safety are working on the investigation.
