Doctors are seeing more cases of pink eye.
Pink eye is the irritation of the inside of the eyelids. Dr. Susan Fedewa at 98point6 Emergicenter in Lansing says it can be caused by allergens, which is why it's common in the spring.
Symptoms of pink eye include red, itchy, watery and burning eyes. For treatment, doctors say the most important thing, is to avoid rubbing your eyes because it will only make things worse.
Most cases of pink eye can be treated with over the counter medications, like Claritin or Flonase.
If you start having vision problems, intense pain, or redness, see your doctor.
Pink eye is very contagious. To prevent spreading it, Dr. Fedewa recommends washing your hands and not coming into contact with someone who is infected.
