This Basketball Team Needs Your Help

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — You might remember the story we shared of Andrew Chapin coaching the basketball team from Battle Creek when they showed up to an AAU tournament without a coach. This is not the first time Andrew has gotten recognized for helping others as he also is a past Excellence in Education Award winner.

Andrew Chapin has not stopped helping this Battle Creek Basketball team. Through the generosity of many the team now has new Basketball Jerseys as well as warm up gear all donated from different people across Michigan. They also will be going to their first Piston's basketball game thanks to the Detroit Pistons' franchise.

All of this being said Andrew Chapin has let FOX 47 know that the team still has some large needs and he is asking for your help.

The basketball team is still in need of a few things including:

  • A Coach - mothers of the players have let Andrew know that the coach that did not show up was let go.
  • Basketball Shoes - All of the kids on the team are playing in regular tennis shoes and they could use actual basketball shoes for the games to come
  • Basketballs - Many of the kids do not have basketballs of their own or ones to use while practicing
  • Pistons gear - the kids will be going to their first Detroit Pistons game in March and they could use some Piston's gear
