LANSING, Mich. — Skimmers were found at a gas station on Thursday on the north side of Lansing.

The skimmers were found at the Admiral gas station on the 2600 block of Grand River.

Skimmers are devices that can be put on a gas pump or ATM to steal credit or debit card information while you swipe it. The information can then be sold or used against you.

Experts say to avoid being skimmed, you should make sure to check for signs of tampering before using your card to pay.

"A lot of the gas stations have chosen to go with the tamper-proof tape. So if you're at a gas pump and you see that tape on the gas pump, you should check to make sure it's not cut, that it's not been peeled back and that you can see that it is intact and that no one has gotten into the pump," said Craig Van Buren.

Experts say that if you do see a skimmer or see that your credit card information has been compromised, contact your bank to let them know and then contact your local police department and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to alert them, too.
