CHESANING, Mich. (AP) — Authorities have removed the wreckage of a small plane after a weekend crash killed an 83-year-old pilot in Saginaw County.
The plane carrying Williams Burns of Vernon crashed Saturday in a park in Chesaning, 40 miles northwest of Flint.
Sheriff Bill Federspiel says federal aviation investigators had asked his staff to keep an eye on the scene because of the government shutdown. The sheriff says he's not complaining. He says, "It's the right thing to do."
Burns, an Army veteran, was a pilot for more than 60 years. His obituary says he and his wife, Linda, were married in 1989 while flying in a plane.
