A motorcyclist died after hitting a deer on Ionia Road late Wednesday night, according to officials.
Eaton County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to the crash that happened just south of Kelly Highway in Vermontville Township. Vermontville fire and Eaton Area EMS also responded.
The release states that at approximately 11:07 p.m. Wednesday, the motorcyclist, a 45-year-old man from Hastings, was traveling southbound on Ionia Road when he struck the deer. The man was not wearing a helmet and was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
According to the release, he died from his injuries at the hospital.
Ionia Road was closed from 11:07 p.m. to 2:45 a.m. The incident is still under investigation by the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
