After a few tries, the city of Jackson has finally selected someone to fill a vacant seat on the Jackson City Council.

Council members appointed 26-year-old Kelsey Heck to represent the city's Fifth Ward Monday night.

Overall, nine candidates were considered and seven of them were interviewed before the council at Monday night's meeting.

Heck was voted in with a 4-2 vote by the council and was sworn in by the city clerk after the meeting.

The seat was vacated in June when Andrew Frounfelker resigned after being charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

Heck will fill out the remainder of Frounfelker's term, which ends in 2021.

She will take the seat during the council's regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night.
