Even if you're a seasoned hunter, there are some rule changes this year that you may not know about.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is warning hunters that chronic wasting disease is a huge concern this year.
The DNR has issued a restriction on baiting and feeding in 16 counties considered to be the CWD Managment Zone. The DNR says it's trying to work with people to make the process less confusing.
"When we find something like chronic wasting disease, we want to try to manage that because we do feel that it's really important for the future overall health of our deer herd. So we want to take precautions to make sure that disease is not spreading too far," said Deer, Elk, Moose Managment Specialist Chad Stewart.
More restrictions will take effect on Jan.1.
Deer checks in the state are voluntary unless you move your deer out of CWD areas.
Firearm season begins on Thursday, Nov. 15, and runs through the 30th.
