DEWITT, Mich. — The road to the National Football League is unpredictable. Dewitt’s own Ryan Anderson can attest to that.

The punter is no stranger to a new team signing a contract on Sunday with the New York Giants...the fourth NFL team he's been with.

"It's surreal, honestly," he said. "I'm blessed to get this far. But I never came this far just to come this far.

Anderson moved all over the state in pursuit of a chance to be in the spotlight, playing a year at Saginaw Valley State before transferring to Olivet College.

He then finished out his college career at Rutgers, averaging just under 45 yards per punt – a single season record.

"College football is competitive at every level, no matter where you're at," said Anderson. "To play in the big ten, the big ten east at that, was amazing...something I could have only dreamed of."

For Anderson, experience at every level of the game means nothing without the work ethic he grew up with.

"If I want something I have to go get it, it's not handed to me. Life's not always fair, so I’ve got to continue to just work hard and stay motivated to do the best that I can."

Anderson turned 24 on Thursday; he's confident his 25th year will be the most memorable.

"Best birthday present I could have asked for...signing a contract two days ago, so I was happy. I'm fortunate to the New York Giants for giving me an opportunity, and I’m going to make the most of it."
