Recent Sparrow OB/GYN resident Ahizechukwu Eke, M.D., has received national recognition for his research.
Dr. Eke received the Donald F. Richardson Memorial Prize Paper Award from the American Congress of Obstetricians & Gynecologists for his study of a routine procedure used during caesarean deliveries. He recently presented his paper at the ACOG Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Eke’s research at Sparrow examined a step commonly used in C-section procedures that some obstetrical surgeons believe is valuable despite the absence of evidence. Validation through research helps ensure obstetricians provide the best, most efficient care for Patients.
The obstetrics and gynecology professional organization chooses the top research papers from each of its 12 districts. Dr. Eke previously received the 2015 Junior Fellow Rising Star in Advocacy Award from the ACOG for a grassroots effort to increase breast health and breast cancer awareness through his Eliminate Breast Cancer Advocacy Program. Dr. Eke is now at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore for fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine.

The research award is a first for the residency program. Dr. Eke’s work is part of Sparrow’s dedication to studying ways to improve Patient care and quality of life by participating in innovative, high quality, clinical research.
