Public Voting has East Lansing, Michigan Artist, Zahrah Resh in the Top 25 for her Installation entitled “Hope, Heal, Soar”.

“This is the best day of my life!  I now know what happy feels like,” said a Cancer Patient who helped make butterflies as they walked through Hope, Heal, Soar during ArtPrize 9.

Zahrah Resh approached Spectrum Health Cancer Center and the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion two years ago with her vision to create a “Garden of Hope” including engagement of cancer patients and their families assembling butterflies used in the installation.  Resh, a survivor of thyroid cancer, knows the health benefits of art, and wanted to help give a sense of community and belonging to those in treatment. More than 6,500 butterflies were created using hand-painted paper. The patients and their families also wrote messages on the wings of the butterflies.

ArtPrize 9 continues through October 8, 2017.  Resh’s exhibit is located at the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion, a division of Spectrum Health, located at 145 Michigan Ave NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Special thanks to Hope, Heal, Soar’s sponsors of the Cancer & Hematology Centers of West Michigan.

Zahrah Resh is an East Lansing, Michigan artist and serves on the Board of Directors for the Lansing Art Gallery and is an alumna of Michigan State University.
