Local cooling centers offer relief from hot and humid weather

Hot and humid weather today through tomorrow in Mid-Michigan. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the area starting Thursday afternoon and running through Friday evening. High temperatures Thursday and Friday will be near 90. With the high humidity levels the Heat Index both days will be near 100. Not much relief is expected at night with overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s and high humidity overnight.

-Due to the heat and humidity try to limit outdoor activities.
-Drink plenty of water
-Do not rely on a fan as your primary cooling device
-Wear loose, lightweight clothing
-If you work outdoors schedule frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Due to the hot and humid weather Cooling Centers will be open Thursday and Friday in the Lansing and Jackson areas. Lansing has many sites and you can find the link to the list on this story or dial 211 for a location near you.

Partly cloudy, hot and humid sums up the forecast today through tomorrow. The hot and humid air is unstable and a few thunderstorms may pop up in the humid air this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow. Any thunderstorms that pass through the area could contain strong winds and heavy rainfall. A passing thunderstorm may break the heat for a few hours, but any relief will not last long.
