A former Michigan State University doctor could find out if he'll be charged with sexually assaulting gymnasts by the end of the week. On Tuesday the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office said it's waiting on the police report.
The accusations against Dr. Larry Nassar were first reported two weeks ago. We checked Michigan State University police reports and found 20 more criminal complaints were filed against Dr. Nassar since then.
While the log does not name the former USA gymnastics team doctor, it does list addresses associated with him. Most of the new reports say the abuse happened at Dr. Nassar's office at Michigan State University, several list his office at Sparrow's Michigan Athletic Club and one gives his home address.
Police records show the abuse allegations date back to 1996, with the most recent from September of last year.
Dr. Nassar's attorney, Matthew Newburg, says those allegations aren't true.
"Dr. Nassar has never denied that he used medical techniques involving vaginal penetration and in fact, he provided the police with detailed information about the techniques he used to treat athletes and patients for decades," Newburg said in a statement.
He went on to say those "techniques are medically accepted and appropriate treatments."
Last week MSU fired Dr. Nassar saying he didn't follow certain employment requirements.
Dr. Nassar has not been charged with any crimes, but police are looking into the allegations.
When their investigation is done, they will send their report to the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office who ultimately decides if Dr. Nassar will face charges.
On Tuesday a spokesman for MSU told Fox 47 News the university is not aware of any other doctors being investigated for sexual abuse allegations. He also confirmed the university has taken several more complaints about Dr. Nassar over the past two weeks.
MSU Police have its special victims unit looking into these cases, but say because it's a complex investigation they can't discuss the number of complaints they've gotten or any details about them.
