Michigan State DL Malik McDowell to enter NFL Draft

(WXYZ) -- Michigan State defensive lineman will enter the 2017 NFL Draft, forgoing his senior season, the school announced Tuesday.

McDowell had 34 tackles in nine games for the Spartans this season, missing the remaining three games with an injury.

“His pre-draft numbers project him as a likely first-round selection," head coach Mark Dantonio said in a release. "We are thankful for his contributions to the program that significantly impacted our recent success, culminating with last year’s Big Ten Championship and an appearance in the College Football Playoff."

McDowell played a total of 36 games over his three seasons in East Lansing, making 23 starts. He registered 90 career tackles and 7.5 sacks.
