Local Business Celebrates One Year of play.
EAST LANSING, MI -- This Sunday January 20th, 2013, was play.’s one year anniversary.
play. hit the East Lansing scene last January and has been the hangout location for moms with young children in the area ever since. Kasey Shoemaker, a mother of two-year-old twins, didn’t want to give up meeting with friends at well-designed places just because she had toddlers in tow. “It’s hard to find kid-friendly play spaces where grown-ups actually want to be, too,” she says.
After having her twins in Chicago, Shoemaker noticed a growing trend in the Windy City and in big cities across America: indoor playspaces designed with both kids and caretakers in mind. This cool urban trend was exactly what the Lansing area needed.
play. was created as safe, wide-open environment where kids can learn and explore while their parents relax and socialize. The spotlight at play. is to encourage imaginative play, which assists kids in learning about the world around them.
Using as many environmentally-friendly and high-quality furniture and toy products as possible, play. was designed to be a clean and safe place for families to gather. Even the cleaning products used throughout the space are non-toxic and environmentally safe, something Shoemaker is passionate about.
There’s more to play. than just open play time. It has become an integral part of the Lansing-area parenting community. play. is host to several mom and parenting groups, playdates, and meetings as well as special classes and events that foster community building. Their ever-evolving schedule now includes Baby and Me,Mom and Tot Yoga, Stories on the Move, Upcycled Art, and even Preschool Prep classes. Shoemaker also donates the space to Great Parents, Great Start, so the organization has an additional location to service the community.
From their Superhero and Princess parties to their first Noon Year’s Eve celebration, their special events bring families together for a fun and unique experience. play. is also the hottest place in town for children’s birthday parties, which lends itself to any theme imaginable. Alexia Mansour, a Lansing mom of two, was thrilled with her daughter’s party. “It was perfect. I never had to worry about the kids and the adults got a chance to relax. And setup and cleanup was so simple. We loved it!”
play. is more than just an indoor playground, it’s a place for community, fun, and learning in a safe, clean environment. For more information or to book a party, visit www.playeastlansing.com.
