Anything Goes is a farce set below decks on an ocean liner, The S.S. American, bound for London from New York. Two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love, proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise, and some good old-fashioned blackmail. Peppering this hilariously bumpy ride are some of musical theater’s most memorable standards including “I Get a Kick out of You”, “It’s De-lovely”, and, of course, “Anything Goes”.
The characters in this zany cast are a gangster Moonface Martin (Will Cruitt), a wealthy debutante, Hope Harcourt (split cast - Alina Tamborini and Carina Teoh), and her mother Evangeline Harcourt (Melanie Walker), a nightclub singer named Reno Sweeney (Emily McKay), a wealthy New York businessman, Elisha Witney (Nico Pigg) and his stowaway assistant, Billy Crocker (Kevin Corbet). It turns out that Hope is Billy's long-lost love. Unfortunately, she is now engaged to a wealthy Englishman, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (split cast - Evan Hertafeld and Ewin Mayes). After a series of comedic happenings, Billy manages to win back Hope. Meanwhile, Billy's friend, Reno, manages to seduce and win Lord Evelyn’s attention. All this happens while Moonface Martin attempts to escape the law and Hope's mother strives to maintain her social status.
Director Chad DeKatch has this cast tapping and dancing along a delightful journey that is enjoyable for all ages to watch.
