Snag Something Sweet at Sugar Shack
When Sugar Shack opened off of Saginaw in Lansing next to a gas station a few years ago, it could be easy to miss. Yet as the Shack's popularity and notoriety grew, so did the need to expand.
Sugar Shack moved to a location off of Clippert, near Frandor. While it's still a small spot, the bakery's massive gourmet cupcakes and other treats make up for it.
If you're a fan of frosting and fun flavor combinations, this is the bakery for you. The "Sugar Shack" gourmet cupcake is a favorite - the unmistakable tower of teal frosting with rainbow sprinkles and chocolate chips in the cake make for a rush of sugary yumminess.
The Sugar Shack cupcake is available every day, but also available on a rotating basis are a slew of creative concoctions unlike what you might see at another bakery. How about the Tequila Lime cupcake, garnished with sea salt and a candied lime? Or the Chunky Monkey - banana cake with chocolate, banana butter cream icing and topped with chopped peanuts? And it's tough to miss the White Trash cupcake, topped with pretzels, marshmallows, pecans, chocolate, and caramel sauce.
Of course, those with simpler needs and palates can yummy it up with a Vanilla Vanilla, Chocolate Vanilla, or Red Velvet.
There might be sticker shock on the gourmet cupcakes - each cost $3.50 - but each cupcake is large enough to satisfy four people when split into quarters. And Sugar Shack's regular-sized cupcakes are just $1.25 a pop.
One of the things that sets Sugar Shack apart is that it is "the bakery that delivers!" With a $2.00 delivery fee, cupcakes can be delivered to your home, office, school, wherever, within a five-mile radius of the bakery.
Another thing that sets it apart is that the bakery is open super late for those late-night cravings, and they are open seven days a week.
We can't even guess how many MSU students have called upon Sugar Shack to help them through a late-night cram session.
Sugar Shack is open 11am-1am on Sunday-Thursday, and 11am-2am Friday and Saturday.
