Douglas J Offers Veterans a Fresh Start on Service
LANSING, MI- How do you thank someone for putting his or her life on the line? For sacrificing everything for our freedom?
Scott Weaver, President of Douglas J Companies was asking himself those very questions when he realized, the best way to thank someone and his or her family for their service, is to offer those families A Fresh Start on Service.
"These men and women- whether they are on the front lines or keeping the homestead running while a loved one is serving abroad- truly provide the highest form of service possible," said Weaver. "We at Douglas J knew we had to come up with a way to give back."
In turn, A Fresh Start on Service- the Douglas J Million Dollar Veterans Scholarship- was born. The start of the scholarship was announced today to provide Douglas J scholarships to veterans and their immediate family members. The funds have the potential to aid up to 200 families in getting to work.
A recent cnn.com article stated that nearly 250,000 post 9/11 veterans were still searching for work following their service to our country.
"Knowing what we know about unemployment rates as they relate to veterans, we truly believe A Fresh Start on Service is the best way to help these men, women and their families recieve an education and in turn earn a living," said Weaver.
Douglas J Aveda Institutes, located in East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Royal Oak and Grand Rapids offer programs that start year-round.
"A student attending full-time has the potential to complete school and get to work within one year's time," added Weaver.
To add to the excitement and gain exposure for the scholarship program, Douglas J is hosting their first-ever community-wide scavenger hunt, which also kicked off today, Tuesday, Feb. 4. Social media clues posted on Douglas J's Twitter and Facebook sites (Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Grand Rapids and Royal Oak) will lead community members in the Lansing, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Royal Oak areas to a number of Douglas J care packages, each containing Aveda products and Douglas J Aveda Institute Services totaling around $1,000.
"We wanted to get the community as excited about this scholarship fund as we are," said Weaver. "This scavenger hunt is a fun way to do that."
