The last dog left at a shelter in Harbor Springs after a statewide adoption event Saturday now has a forever family.

The 1-year old Labrador retriever named Eastwood is at the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. Veterinarians say he is a "special needs" dog. He was found on the side of a road in December and has a deformity in his leg. It is believed the dog was born with the defect and could be the reason his previous owners abandoned him.

After the annual 'Empty The Shelters" event last weekend, sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation, Eastwood was the only dog who had not been adopted. He will need surgery in the future and the shelter advised potential owners about the costs so that they would be aware. However, that is likely the reason he was not adopted on Saturday.

Workers at the Humane Society posted the dog's picture and story on social media and his story went viral. Applications for the pup poured in. More than 80 people applied to adopt Eastwood.

Eastwood was officially adopted by a family from the Detroit area Tuesday. He will move in with his new family next week. The Humane Society says the new owners came highly recommended and have a great history as pet owners.
