Tigers Swept in 4, Giants Win World Series
Sunday night's Game 4 seemed like the Tigers' best shot at winning a game in the series, but luck was not on the side of Detroit in the World Series.
Tied 3-3 and heading into extra innings, the San Francisco Giants scored the go-ahead run on a Marco Scutaro single to give his team a 4-3 lead in the 10th inning.
The Tigers had the top of their lineup ready to bat, but went 1-2-3 to end the inning and lose the game. Miguel Cabrera, whose two-run shot in the third inning gave the Tigers the lead for the first time in the World Series, struck out in the final out of the game.
The Tigers had held their 2-1 lead until the sixth inning, when the Giants scored two runs. Delmon Young, the ALCS MVP, answered back with a game-tying homer in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score 3-3.
Prince Fielder struggled most in the World Series, having one hit in 14 at-bats.
The Giants have now won the championship twice in the last three years. The Tigers played their second World Series in six years, and faced similar issues in the 2006 series against the St. Louis Cardinals after several days of rest following the ALCS.
