The Capital Region International Airport (LAN) today announced that bookings are available and on sale now for American Airlines’ new daily nonstop service from Lansing to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), which will launch Aug. 23.

“The decision by American Airlines to bring new travel options to one of the nation’s premier hubs is an exciting development for both Lansing-area residents and visitors,” said Robert Selig, president and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Authority.

“Offering three daily nonstop flights from Lansing to Chicago represents a major upgrade in service by providing connection opportunities to more than 100 domestic and more than 10 international destinations,” Selig said. “American Airlines’ arrival at Capital Region International Airport will continue to foster the growth of commerce and meet the demands of travelers across the state of Michigan.”

American’s new service will operate seven days a week, departing from Capital Region International Airport at 6:10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 3:44 p.m., with arrivals in Chicago at 6:16 a.m., 11:05 a.m. and 3:50 p.m., respectively (all times are local). Return flights from O’Hare International Airport will depart daily at 8:30 a.m., 12:05 p.m. and 9:44 p.m., arriving in Lansing at 10:36 a.m., 2:16 p.m. and 11:44 p.m., respectively (all times are local). Travelers can book their flights at AA.com, FlyLansing.com and through the Fly Lansing Concierge Travel Center.

American will operate an Embraer 145 aircraft for its flights from Lansing to O’Hare International Airport with capacity to carry 50 passengers. American is investing $3 billion in the customer experience by adding more all-aisle access, fully lie-flat seats, international Wi-Fi, more in-flight entertainment options and power outlets, and improved food and beverage offerings.

The service to Chicago follows American’s announcement last month that the nation’s largest air carrier will offer new daily nonstop service from Lansing to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) beginning July 5. American’s DCA routes will provide customers in mid-Michigan with easy access to more than 60 destinations in four countries. The announcement culminated an eight-month-long local grassroots campaign that successfully spurred federal authorities to approve American’s application to introduce new service from Lansing, Selig noted.
