Harris, Appling Bring Spartans to Victory over Kansas
Travis Trice might have been out of the game after experiencing concussion-like symptoms, but freshman Gary Harris stepped up to the plate to help the Spartans upset Kansas in Atlanta at the Champions Classic.
Harris played 35 minutes and scored 18 points, 11 in the first half alone.
Keith Appling was firing on all cylinders in the second half, scoring a key basket on the Spartans' last possession to give the Spartans a 67-64 lead and the win. Appling had 19 points, and was 3-3 on three pointers.
The Spartans bounced back from a disappointing loss to UConn in their season opener in Germany. Michigan State was down 59-54 with five minutes left in the game, but an 8-0 late in the game kept the Spartans in it.
Michigan State heads back to East Lansing to play in their home opener against Texas Southern on Sunday afternoon.
