Fall is a great time to rethink, restart and rejuvenate yourself. The cooler temperatures mean less bugs to deal with and plenty of beautiful autumn tree leaves to look at.

Although the air is now crisper, it’s very safe to exercise outside and this can also keep your mood stable as we move into shorter darker days.

Why not wait until New Years? Why get started now?

If you get started now, you’ll establish healthy exercise habits right before the festive holiday season arrives. Physical activity can help keep off extra unwanted pounds we can gain from overindulging in holiday food.

So, instead of putting it off, you can get started right now.  You don’t need to follow a time-consuming gym regimen, you can reap rewards from many types and levels of exercise.

Partha’s RX:

1. The weather is perfect for long walks, hike or biking at local and state parks.  The cool air means you less likely to overheat so grab a friend and get exploring.

2. Dress in layers and don’t forget mitten or gloves.  As you warm up, you can remove outer layers or add them back on during rest times.

3. Be careful of slick wet ground.  Consider waterproof shoes and make sure they fit well but not too tight.

4. Make exercise a part of your life.  Choose something you enjoy doing as that’s what you’ll be motivated to stick with.

If it’s been a while since you’ve been active or if you have breathing issues like COPD or asthma, you should talk to your doctor first before starting an exercise routine. Never push yourself too hard and stop any exercise if you have chest pain or dizziness.
