The Only Wolverine Confirmed to be Seen in Michigan Came to the Capitol
A stuffed wolverine took over the state capitol Tuesday. It's said to be the only wolverine ever confirmed here in Michigan. It was discovered in the northern thumb region in 2004, the first wolverine seen in Michigan since the fur trade 200 years ago.
The man who tracked and photographed the animal before it died in 2010 told us how thrilled he is to be a part of Michigan history "a once in a lifetime opportunity, I don't suspect another one will show up in my lifetime, That's why I went after her as hard as i could, I'm just excited to be able to join the senators and the head of the D.N.R. to celebrate the only wild wolverine ever confirmed here in Michigan."
The wolverine spent her last years in the Minden City State game area, until dying of congestive heart failure. It's believed she came to Michigan from Ontario, based on D.N.A. profiles.
