Michigan Lawmaker Launches New Effort to Keep Guns Out of Schools
A Michigan lawmaker has launched a new effort to keep guns out of schools, and it comes on the three-month anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Currently, if you have a concealed weapons permit, you can take your gun into gun-free zones, like schools, as long as it is openly visable.
Representative Andy Schor's new bill would keep guns out of schools altogether. Schor says: "As a gun owner, I recognize the importance of the 2nd Amendment, but in this case, allowing openly armed civilians to roam the halls of our schools is a recipe for disaster."
In December, Governor Snyder vetoed a bill that would have allowed people with a concealed gun permit to carry their weapons, out of sight, in schools and other gun-free areas. He said he wanted to let individual schools and districts decide their own gun bans.
