Detroit City Council Expected to Fight Emergency Manager Decison
The Detroit City Council will make their voices heard Tuesday, trying to convince any who will listen that the city of Detroit does not need an Emergency Financial Manager.
Governor Rick Snyder had announced plans to appoint an EFM to Detroit last week, and will have to make a decision on whether to change his mind or stick with his decision after both the city council and the state make their cases.
Detroit's Mayor, Dave Bing, does not agree with the council's decision to appeal the EFM and his office will not be taking part in the hearing on Tuesday. While the city council admits that the financial situation in Detroit is bad, they believe an EFM is not the solution, and believe they are able to fix the situation without the involvement of an outside party.
The hearing will take place at 10a.m. Tuesday morning at the Richard H. Austin building, 430 W. Allegan st. in downtown Lansing.
