Updating The Search for a New Pope
30 nearly 115 cardinals are meeting at the Vatican, trying to come up with guidelines on how to choose the next Pope. These discussions are designed to allow the cardinals to get to know each other as well as discuss the needs of the Catholic church.
Justin Francis Rigali of the Diocese of Tennessee says: "I don't think they are able to announce the beginning of the conclave until they have a sense that the business is coming to an end."
Pope Emeritus Benedict the sixteenth remains at the papal residence at Castel Gandolfo while cardinals pick his successor.. The cardinals are hoping to have a new pope in place by holy week.. Though they are in agreement to make sure, who they pick will be able to lead the catholic church into th future
A vatican spokesman says they are confident the remaining cardinals will arrive in the coming days. Under church law the cardinals have until march 20th to start a conclave, but they can decide to start it earlier in Rome.
