We're learning more about the tragic shooting of a three-year-old boy who accidentally shot and killed himself on Saturday.

Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Easter's son Michael, somehow got a hold of a loaded handgun in the family home.  Three year-old Michael Easter got hold of a handgun inside the family's Liberty Township home, then shot and killed himself.  The boy's mother was in the house at the time. She called 9-1-1 and her husband.

Michigan state police investigators are trying to piece together what happened. They've submitted the weapon and shell casings to the forensic lab.

The Jackson County Sheriff's office is not taking  part in the investigation, but will provide grief counselors to the staff.   "You go to a lot of tragic events in this line of work it's just a lot different when it's somebody close to you." Sheriff Steven Rand says.

Deputy Easter is taking time off to be wit the family, and his office is offering their full support. In the meantime, the investigation continues.

Services for Michael Easter will be held this Wednesday.  Sheriff Steven Rand says they will do a routine internal investigation into the incident soon. But for now they just want to do what they can to support the Easter family.
